Dance Magic
A day of song, movement, and celebration of nature.
10-12pm – Songs in Motion Film Program
A preschool-friendly program with kinetic dance animations and shadow play. With music, movement and stretches between films led by early-childhood educator and musical creator, Kristi Keefe. Kristi will invite you and your little ones to join her in a circle for song and dance, or stand up right at your chairs and move along with her from afar.
We know your 1-5yr olds may want to express their curiosity and excitement about the short films they see through gross motor play and vocal expression, and we invite them to do so! We hope some volunteers will join Kristi on stage for a final dance of shadows and light (scarves, ribbon wands, and cardboard characters provided). More about Kristi’s early learning program can be discovered at http://www.littlevillagecollaborative.com
Included is a special screening of The Red Balloon.
1-2pm – Exploratorium Cinema Arts Presents: Floral Prints Film Program
The Exploratorium Cinema Arts presents flowing films that touch on themes of kinetics and nature.
2-3pm – Floral Prints Workshop
Local multidisciplinary artist Lani Zila leads a special plant printing workshop to print beautiful designs on paper. Bring sturdy flowers and leaves from your backyard!
7pm – Fantasy Feature! Labyrinth
SATURDAY AUGUST 26th

9-10am – Swazzle Dazzles: Shorts Film Program
The talented puppet makers of Swazzle Puppet Studio (Waffles + Mochi, Cranker Yankers and The Pee-wee Herman Show) present short films from Treebees, Pee-wee’s Playhouse, and The Muppet Show, with introductions.

11:30am-12:30pm – Cameraless Movies Film Program
All workshop projects will be spliced together and projected as a one-of-a-kind collective film, followed by the movie magic of “direct cinema,” a tradition of cameraless filmmaking that’s been around since the 1930s.

Highlights of short films submitted by kids from the community along with highlights from thirty years of children’s animation workshops across the country, from Vermont to Massachusetts to California.
