The award-winning Nevada City Film Festival (NCFF) is pleased to announce that submissions are open!
NCFF kicks off September 8-11, 2016, in the beautiful Gold Rush era town of Nevada City, CA. Now in its 16th year, the film festival continues to bring together an ever-expanding regional audience of movie lovers with emerging and top independent filmmakers to showcase award-winning international short and feature length films. The four-day celebration of art, music, technology, and independent filmmaking, includes film screenings, industry panels and workshops, filmmaker Q&A’s, live music, hackathons, and other special events.
Professional, student, and amateur filmmakers are invited to submit short and feature length films in a variety of genres including but not limited to documentaries, animation, narrative, comedy, multi-media, experimental, music videos, virtual and augmented reality.
Last year, the festival worked with Pixar Studios and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to present three special never before seen programs. The festival also presents a Local Filmmakers and Student Works Showcase, along with a children’s specific program and a series of pop-up outdoor screenings.
NCFF is known for recognizing and supporting new talent including once up and coming independent filmmakers such as Jonathan Krisel (Portlandia, Baskets), Patrick Brice (CREEP, The Overnight), actress and director Heather Donahue (Blair Witch Project, High Country), editor Greg Finton (He Named Me Malala), Academy Award-Winning director Lucy Walker (Tsunami and the Cherry Blossom, The Crash Reel), Academy Award-nominated director and animator Daisy Jacobs (The Bigger Picture), director Kat Candler (Hellion), director Rick Alverson (Entertainment), animator and performance artist Miwa Matryek, director David Zellner (Kumiko, The Treasure Hunter), animator Galen Pehrson, and directors Mark and Jay Duplass, among others.
In previous years NCFF has hosted filmmakers such as Mike Mills, Miranda July, Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim (Cartoon Networks Tim & Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!), and comedians including Tig Notaro (Inside Amy Schumer, Comedy Central), Nick Kroll (FX’s The League, and Comedy Central’s Nick Kroll Show), Natasha Leggero (Chelsea Lately), and Marc Maron (WTF Podcast).
Past NCFF judges have included award-winning producers and directors, plus writers from The Huffington Post, New York Times, McSweeneys, San Francisco Chronicle, SF Weekly, Rolling Stone Magazine, and Pop-Up Magazine.
NCFF takes pride in its renowned hospitality and works hard to ensure that filmmakers have a one-of-a-kind experience when visiting. The Festival creates an easy and intimate forum of exchange and interaction between filmmakers and a supportive and enthusiastic audience.
All short films are eligible for the Festival Jury Award – $1,500 and all films are eligible for the Audience Choice Award – $500.

Save and submit early. Early Deadline is April 18, 2016, Regular Deadline is May 1, 2016, and Late Deadline is June 1, 2016. All filmmakers will be notified by July 15, 2016.
