Laughter shock improv Troupe
A Brand New, Multi-Generational Comedy Improv Troupe from Nevada County!
Get ready to gasp, giggle, and maybe even “quake” with laughter as Nevada County’s newest improv troupe, Laughter Shock launches its debut season.
With players ranging in age from their 20s to their 70s, they bring a refreshingly diverse perspective to the stage. Improv is unscripted, in-the-moment, creative play with games and scenes created ON THE SPOT with the help and suggestions from YOU, the audience.
Some players have years of formal acting and improvisation under their belts, while others discovered their comic timing and spontaneous storytelling in just the last year-quickly melding and mastering the ART OF PLAY TOGETHER. They may soar, fly, and even flop which is part of the fun. With a name like Laughter Shock, expect the unexpected!

Catherine O'Hara Tribute
Double Feature with Frankenweenie (2012, PG) 4:30PM
Join the Nevada City Film Festival in celebrating comedy legend Catherine O’ Hara with a double feature of Frankenweenie and Best in Show.
Tim Burton’s stop-motion masterpiece Frankenweenie is a heartfelt story about a boy, his dog, and the magic of imagination. When a car hits young Victor’s pet dog Sparky, Victor decides to bring him back to life the only way he knows how. But when the bolt-necked “monster” wreaks havoc and terror in the hearts of Victor’s neighbors, he has to convince them that Sparky’s still the good, loyal friend he was.
The Nevada Theatre, 401 Broad Street, Nevada City DOORS 4PM / SHOW 4:30pm / $10, 17 & Under FREE
Best in show (2000, PG-13), 7pm
The tension is palpable, the excitement is mounting and the heady scent of competition is in the air as hundreds of eager contestants from across America prepare to take part in what is undoubtedly one of the greatest events of their lives — the Mayflower Dog Show. The canine contestants and their owners are as wondrously diverse as the great country that has bred them.
“The dogs may be cute, but it’s the people who steal the show.”
“Improv comedy rarely makes it onto the big screen. And when it does so as hilariously as it does in Best in Show … that is certainly cause for celebration.”
